As part of the website review Charlotte at Village Ceramics is planning, I took the opportunity to upgrade the website to the funky Genesis parent WordPress theme.

Village Ceramics is a craft studio in Cheam Village, Surrey providing classes in ceramics, children’s activities and kids parties.

The previous incarnation was dogged with hand-coded sidebars and adhoc code meaning that the maintenance and updating of the website was taking longer and longer. It is now in a position to be the platform Charlotte wants – to move forward with new content, a revision of services and be used to capture customer contact details. With a bit of training, it can be handed over to Charlotte and Jay to start hammering the content and attracting new visitors.

Please visit Village Ceramics today.

From an initial ‘pitch’ about WordPress earlier in the year, the initial brief, was limited. Ability to post jobs and news, within the existing brand colours but especially to give the site a ‘busy’ active and energetic feel. Well the front page is certainly busy but its now with Supreme team to start posting and using the site. I’ll be monitoring the site over the next few weeks, answering client questions perhaps tweaking items here and there. I’ll be asking for any visitor feedback too – its their target audience who will have the final say about its overall success.

Celebrating its 8 year, Surveylab Limited has recently published its updated, sharpened fresher ‘online face’ to the Internet masses. Surveylab designs, codes, hosts and publishes online customer and employee surveys. Avid readers of this blog will know that its my main ‘hat’ where I design and program these surveys for clients here in the UK, Europe, US and beyond!

For the first time the Surveylab is on a content management system, in this case WordPress. Using the flexible and impressive Genesis framework, the site was transformed into a working design with input from Dan. New content was hammered out (and is still being fine-tuned) but we have a site that is a big step forward in terms of presentation, depth and opportunity as we look to build in new content.

Another objective was to more clearly bring the measuring-satisfaction.com blog under the Surveylab brand. Linked through the old site, it was intended to be a different voice from the main site but is now an important stage to offering Surveylab’s brand of online survey help, advice and guidance as well as highlighting business opportunties and related-industry news. Swing by today and subscribe!

After a relatively short development time, Kingsgate Recruitment’s new website was launched Friday 1st April 2011.

The original website was coded back in 2007 in HTML, then coverted to ASP and back to HTML as a new host was sourced. A revamp was long overdue but I felt the site could go further by offering greater flexibility in layout and content with the ability for the client to manage their own pages. Using WordPress with a Genesis base, the new site ticks all the right boxes. Using categories, we’ve set the site up as a job posting platform incorporating the previously standalone ‘HotJobs’ website. Kingsgate can also add news posting to the site updating, adding daily/weekly updates on industry related topics (making greater friends with Mr Search Engine).

The Bridge to Health site was in need of a stable, scalable theme which has proved to be using StudioPress’ Genesis parent theme. I’ve been very impressed with this and used the generic Child theme as a starting point to quickly import, update and create the Bridge to health site that was launched today. The latest version of WordPress together with plugins Genesis Hooks and Sidebars allow management of the site presentation without needing to dive into the theme files. I think I will go deeper for future developments but for the time being, StudioPress files provide the flexibility and quality needed to take content, take WordPress and output a smart, presentable website.

The CustomerCareAlliance.com (CCA) website was published today. The site was a revision from a 2004 HTML version which had not been touched since 2007. The content was completely stripped out by the client and an open brief given to produce ‘something’ that looked different, yet professional and maintained an online identity for the organisation.

The Customer Care Alliance is an organisation ‘dedicating to fostering customer care best practices that can make a marketplace difference’.

The design went through various stages – from tight cropping of images, to fixed content areas and multi-levelled jQuery menus. When the final content came through I decided to use full screen images and custom backgrounds across pages. This approach wouldn’t work on a site with any more than 5 pages – the ‘eye’ needs to re-learn each page and on larger sites this would mean headaches or numerous clicks away.
